Mojca Medvešek in Romana Bešter: Položaj priseljenskih jezikov v Sloveniji. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 5–27.
Prispevek obravnava položaj in rabo jezikov priseljencev in njihovih potomcev v Sloveniji. Osredotoča se na pet področij: izobraževanje, kulturo, religijo, medije in trg dela. Poleg pravnoformalnega okvira, ki na omenjenih področjih opredeljuje položaj in možnosti razvoja priseljenskih jezikov, so v prispevku predstavljeni empirični podatki o rabi priseljenskih jezikov v praksi ter percepcije priseljencev in njihovih potomcev o rabi in položaju njihovih maternih jezikov v Sloveniji. Kljub promociji večjezičnosti in načelni zavezanosti države k uresničevanju jezikovnih pravic posameznikov in manjšinskih skupnosti v Sloveniji avtorici ugotavljata, da slovenska družba v praksi pogosto ne prepoznava širšega pomena in vrednosti priseljenskih jezikov.

Mojca Medvešek in Romana Bešter: The Status of the Languages of Immigrants in Slovenia. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 5–27.
The article deals with the status and use of the languages of immigrants and their descendants in Slovenia. It focuses on five areas: education, culture, religion, the media and the labour market. In addition to the legal and formal framework defining the status of immigrant languages and the opportunities for their development in the areas referred to, empirical data is presented on the actual use of immigrant languages and the perception, on the part of immigrants as well as their offspring, of the use and status of their mother tongues in Slovenia. Despite the state’s efforts to promote multilingualism, and its commitment to implementing the language rights of individuals and minority groups in Slovenia, the authors come to the conclusion that, in practice, Slovene society often fails to recognise the wider significance and value of immigrant languages.

Ina Ferbežar: »Izrekam zvestobo moji novi domovini Republiki Sloveniji …«: testiranje znanja slovenščine kot drugega in tujega jezika v Sloveniji. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 29–45.
Prispevek predstavlja položaj govorcev slovenščine kot drugega in tujega jezika, še posebej tistih, ki morajo za svoje življenje in delo v Republiki Sloveniji svoje znanje slovenščine dokazovati z uradnim spričevalom. Podatki zadnjih let kažejo, da število priseljencev v Sloveniji narašča, hkrati pa se povečujejo tudi uradne zahteve po znanju slovenščine. To je že od leta 1992 pogoj za pridobitev slovenskega državljanstva z naturalizacijo, medtem ko druge države Evropske unije jezikovne izpite za t. i. potrebe integracije uvajajo šele zadnjih nekaj let. Jezikovno testiranje za pridobitev državljanstva posega v temeljne človekove pravice in tako odpira številna etična vprašanja, pa tudi vprašanja dostopa do jezikovnega znanja, učnih praks in dejanskih sporazumevalnih potreb oseb, ki se takih izpitov udeležujejo. Na drugi strani pa se vzpostavlja problem tistih področij, kjer bi bilo treba zahteve po jezikovnem znanju jasno definirati, npr. za tuje zdravnike, ki v Sloveniji iščejo zaposlitev. V drugem delu se prispevek osredotoča na obstoječi sistem testiranja znanja slovenščine kot drugega in tujega jezika, navaja nekatere statistične podatke o številu udeležencev na izpitih, njihovem izvoru, učnih praksah in razlogih za opravljanje izpita iz znanja slovenščine, predvsem pa odpira nekatera pomembna vprašanja testiranja specifične populacije, ki govori slovenščini sorodne jezike.

Ina Ferbežar: “I Pledge Loyalty to My New Country, the Republic of Slovenia ...”: Testing Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language in Slovenia. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 29–45.
The article presents the status of speakers of Slovene as a second and foreign language, especially those who are required to demonstrate their competence in Slovene with an official certificate in order to be able to live and work in the Republic of Slovenia. According to data for recent years, the number of immigrants in Slovenia is increasing, as are the formal language requirements. Competence in Slovene language has been a condition for acquiring Slovene citizenship by naturalisation since 1992, while it is only in the past few years that other countries of the European Union have started to introduce language exams for so-called integration purposes. Language testing for citizenship purposes affects some fundamental human rights, and thus raises numerous ethical issues as well as issues of access to language skills, teaching practices and the actual communication needs of the test takers. On the other hand, a problem has been identified in those areas where the language requirements should be more clearly defined; for example, regarding foreign medical doctors seeking employment in Slovenia. In the second part, the article focuses on the current system of testing Slovene as a second and foreign language, providing some statistics on the number of test takers, their origins, learning practices and reasons for sitting Slovene language exams. Most importantly, the article raises some important questions regarding language exams for specific groups of speakers whose mother tongues are closely related to Slovene.

Mihaela Knez: Za koliko slovenščin(e) je prostora v naši šoli? Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 47–62.
Izobraževanje je ključnega pomena za proces vključevanja otrok priseljencev v novo okolje, znanje jezika novega okolja pa pogoj, brez katerega se izobraževanje ne izteče uspešno. Jezik seveda še zdaleč ni edini dejavnik, ki pripomore k hitrejšemu vključevanju in uspešnejšemu šolanju, dejstvo pa je, da dosegajo učenci priseljenci v tistih državah, ki učenju novega jezika posvečajo večjo pozornost, boljše rezultate. V prispevku bomo spregovorili o vlogi slovenščine pri šolanju učencev priseljencev, omejili pa smo se na prvo generacijo priseljencev.

Mihaela Knez: How Many Varieties of Slovene Can We Accommodate in Our Schools? Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 47–62.
Education is crucial to the process of integration of immigrant children into a new environment, while knowledge of the new environment’s language is a precondition for the successful completion of the educational process. Language is, of course, far from being the only factor that contributes to more rapid integration and successful education, but the reality is that immigrant pupils achieve better results in those countries that devote greater attention to foreign/second language learning. Having limited our research to the first generation of immigrants, in the present paper we discuss the role of Slovene language in the education of immigrant pupils.

Janez Skela in Urška Sešek: Od globalnih smernic do lokalnih kontekstov: učenje in poučevanje tujih jezikov v Sloveniji. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 63–82.
Članek osvetljuje nekatera načela, strateške smernice in teoretične pristope k načrtovanju tujejezikovnega izobraževanja, ki ga v 21. stoletju povsod po svetu – tudi v Sloveniji – odločilno zaznamuje prevlada angleščine kot svetovne lingue france. Ta prevlada angleščine močno vpliva na standarde znanja in pričakovane dosežke učencev, posledica česar sta vsaj dve temeljni spremembi: (1) zniževanje začetne starosti poučevanja tujih jezikov in (2) povečanje izpostavitve ciljnemu jeziku. V drugem delu članka je podrobneje prikazano stanje učenja tujih jezikov v slovenskem javnem šolstvu (tj. nabor jezikov, obseg in konteksti učenja), nakazane so nekatere ključne problematike, na kratko pa je obravnavano tudi neformalno učenje tujih jezikov v Sloveniji.

Janez Skela in Urška Sešek: From Global Trends to Local Contexts: Foreign Language Learning and Teaching in Slovenia. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 63–82.
The article highlights some of the principles and strategic guidelines of foreign language education as well as theoretical approaches to the design of such education, which, in the 21st century, has been decisively marked all over the world – including in Slovenia – by the domination of English as the global lingua franca. The dominance of English has a major impact on the standards of knowledge and expected achievements of pupils, resulting in at least two fundamental changes: (1) the lower age of foreign language beginner learners, and (2) increasing exposure to the target language. In the second part of the article, a detailed presentation is given of the state of foreign language learning in the Slovene public school system (i.e., range of languages , scope and learning contexts), highlighting some of the key problems. Informal foreign language learning in Slovenia is also briefly discussed.

Anna Kolláth: Jezikovne spretnosti madžarske manjšine v Sloveniji. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 83–99.
Oddelek za madžarski jezik in književnost Filozofske fakultete Univerze v Mariboru od marca 2011 sodeluje kot partner – z raziskovanjem madžarskega jezika in njegovih govorcev v Sloveniji – v mednarodnem projektu ELDIA (European Language Diversity for All/Evropska jezikovna raznolikost za vse). Mariborska projektna skupina raziskuje jezikovni položaj madžarsko govoreče skupnosti v Sloveniji z različnih vidikov, ki so bili določeni v okviru projekta. Prispevek sestoji iz dveh delov. V prvem, krajšem delu predstavljam interdisciplinarni projekt ELDIA, cilje projekta, obravnavane jezike in nove pristope. V drugem delu analiziram prve pridobljene podatke iz obsežnega korpusa, ki smo ga pridobili z zbiranjem podatkov preko anketiranja in intervjuvanja pripadnikov madžarsko govoreče skupnosti v Sloveniji in pripadnikov večinskega prebivalstva Slovenije. Po predstavitvi osnovnih demografskih podatkov o anketiranih osebah analiziram štiri temeljne jezikovne spretnosti anketirancev v obeh skupinah. Raven določene jezikovne spretnosti za posamezni jezik (materni jezik, drugi jezik, tuji jeziki, materni jezik avtohtonih manjšin v Sloveniji) so anketiranci označili na podlagi samoocenjevanja na petstopenjski lestvici. Analiza rezultatov po jezikih in glede posamezne govorne skupnosti kaže tendence, ki v času ekonomske in socialne globalizacije v večjezičnem in multikulturnem svetu določajo rabo jezikov na najrazličnejših jezikovnih prizoriščih.

Anna Kolláth: Language Skills of the Hungarian Minority in Slovenia. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 83–99.
Since March 2011, the Department of Hungarian Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor has participated as a partner in the international project ELDIA (European Language Diversity for All), undertaking studies of the Hungarian language and its speakers in Slovenia. The Maribor project group has investigated the linguistic situation of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Slovenia from the various perspectives determined within the project. The present article consists of two parts. In the first, shorter part, the ELDIA interdisciplinary project is presented, along with its goals, the languages investigated and the new approaches . The second part contains an analysis of the initial data obtained from a large corpus that was assembled by collecting data through surveying and interviewing members of the Hungarian-speaking minority in Slovenia and members of the majority population of Slovenia. After presenting the basic demographic data on the respondents, there is an analysis of the four basic language skills of the respondents in both groups. The level of language skills for each language (native tongue, second language, foreign languages , the mother tongue of indigenous minorities in Slovenia) was marked by the respondents themselves on the basis of self-assessment on a five-point scale. The analysis of the results according to language and individual language community pinpoints tendencies that, in times of economic and social globalisation, determine the use of languages in a variety of language venues in the multilingual and multicultural world.

Martin Vrtačnik: Gledališki lektor – njegova funkcija in namen v sodobnosti. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 101–114.
Pojav funkcije gledališkega lektorja v začetku 20. stoletja je v slovenskem dramskem gledališču povezan z vzpostavitvijo zavestnega odnosa do odrske slovenščine in javnega slovenskega govora sploh. V sto letih se je vloga gledališkega lektorja spremenila iz varuha pravorečne norme ogroženega jezika v slogovnega oblikovalca odrskega govora. Na to so med drugim vplivale specifične družbeno-zgodovinske razmere 20. stoletja in razvoj (slovenskega) jezikoslovja. Ob tej priložnosti je v članku (znova) premišljena vloga sodobnega gledališkega lektorja: članek izhaja iz pomenskih odtenkov besede lektor (v povezavi z dejanskimi delovnimi nalogami gledališkega lektorja), analizira ocene gledaliških kritikov in izpostavi (strokovne) prispevke gledaliških lektorjev, ki iz prve roke nakazujejo sodobne težnje oblikovanja odrskega govora. V sklepnem delu članka je na podlagi predstavljenih tematskih sklopov kot neologizem predlagano poimenovanje dela funkcije oz. nalog, ki jih opravlja gledališki lektor – tj. oblikovalec govora.

Martin Vrtačnik: The Theatre Language Consultant – His/Her Function and Purpose in Contemporary Times. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 101–114.
The emergence of the role of theatre language consultant (“lektor”) in the early 20th century in the Slovene drama theatre is linked to the establishment of a special awareness with regard to the Slovene language on stage and to Slovene public speech in general. In the hundred years since then, the role of theatre “lektor” has changed from that of a guardian of the pronunciation norms of an endangered language to that of a stage speech style editor. This was, among other things, the result of the specific socio-historical conditions of the 20th century and of the development of (Slovene) linguistics. Therefore, the role of the modern theatre “lektor” is (once more) reconsidered in the present article, which opens with an elaboration of the nuances implied in the word “lektor” (in relation to the actual tasks ascribed to the theatre language consultant), then goes on to analyse certain theatre reviews and, finally, presents (professional) contributions of “lektors”, who indicate firsthand the modern trends in the shaping of stage speech. On the basis of the topics presented, the conclusion proposes a neologism to name one set of the function, or tasks, performed by the theatre language consultant or “lektor”, i.e., “the designer of speech”.

Tomaž Petek: Ozaveščenost o javnem govornem nastopanju – priložnost za profesionalni razvoj učitelja. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 115–129.
Učiteljeva sposobnost učinkovitega sporazumevanja predstavlja eno izmed temeljnih kompetenc, v okviru katere ima pomembno vlogo tudi učiteljevo javno govorno nastopanje. Načrtovanje in razvijanje javnega govornega nastopanja pri prihodnjih učiteljih je pomembno za uspešno uresničevanje ciljev sodobnega vzgojno-izobraževalnega procesa, tj. poučevanja v razredu, s tem pa tudi priložnost za učiteljev profesionalni razvoj. Zaradi spremenjenih pogledov na učinkovit pouk in drugačnih sporazumevalnih vzorcev v sodobni družbi se tudi predavanje/razlaga kot značilna retorična vrsta oz. ena temeljnih enogovornih govorjenih besedilnih vrst, ki jih v razredu tvori učitelj, močno spreminja. Na javno govorno nastopanje se mora zato učitelj dobro in kakovostno pripraviti – vsebinsko, didaktično in »retorično«. Ker gre za zahtevno in pomembno spretnost, je ključnega pomena, da se študentje (prihodnji učitelji) že med študijem na prvi (pa tudi na drugi) stopnji o tem ustrezno izobrazijo in se usposobijo za to dejavnost. Pri razvijanju zmožnosti učiteljevega javnega govornega nastopanja je treba biti mdr. pozoren na sposobnost tvorjenja vsebinsko ustreznih, razumljivih, pravilnih in učinkovitih javnih enogovornih govorjenih besedil.

Tomaž Petek: A Responsible Attitude towards Public Speaking – An Opportunity for the Professional Development of the Teacher. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 115–129.
The teacher’s ability to communicate effectively is one of the key competencies, and within its framework the role of the teacher as a public speaker plays an important part. The promotion and development of public speaking skills in pre-service teachers is important for the successful implementation of the objectives of the modern educational process, i.e., teaching in the classroom, and thus represents an opportunity for teachers to develop professionally. Due to changed views on effective teaching, and as a result of modified patterns of communication in modern society, lecturing/explanation, as a characteristic rhetoric type and one of the fundamental monologue spoken text types formed by the teacher in the classroom, has changed significantly. The teacher should therefore be well prepared in terms of content, as well as didactically and “rhetorically”, before undertaking public speaking. Given that this is a complex and important skill, it is of utmost importance that students (future teachers) be properly trained for this activity while studying at the 1st level (as well as the second). In developing teachers’ public speaking competencies, the focus should, among other things, be on the ability to produce relevant, comprehensible, accurate and efficient public monologue spoken texts.

Vita Žerjal Pavlin: Prvi pesemski cikli slovenskih pesnic. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 131–145.
Po ciklično oblikovani pesnitvi Josipine Turnograjske Zmeraj krasna je narava (1851) sta med prvimi slovenskimi pesnicami lirske cikle v drugi polovici 19. stoletja oblikovali še Luiza Pesjak in Pavlina Pajk. Pri tem sta se naslonili tako na tuje kot na domače pesemskociklične zglede, ki so jim izhodiščno spodbudo dali Prešernovi cikli. Deloma sta posegli po značilni tematiki svoje dobe (domoljubje, popotniški vtisi, letni časi), deloma pa sta z razširjeno ciklično celoto predstavili specifično žensko izkušnjo (odnos do zakonske zveze, materinstva, lastnega življenja). Ker sta obe avtorici znani tudi ali celo predvsem kot pripovednici, ne preseneča njuna odločitev za sintagmatski pesemski cikel, ki omogoča modifikacijo lirike v narativno strukturo, odločitev za racionalno grajeni cikel pa odraža tudi njuno literarno ambicioznost.

Vita Žerjal Pavlin: The First Poem Cycles of Slovene Women Poets. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 131–145.
After Josipina Turnograjska’s cyclic poem Always Beautiful Is Nature from 1851, Luiza Pesjak and Pavlina Pajk were next among the first Slovene women poets to compose lyrical cycles in the second half of the 19th century. In so doing, they relied on both foreign and domestic examples of cyclic poems that were initially inspired by Prešeren’s cycles. In part, they used typical themes of the age (patriotism, travel impressions, seasons of the year), but, in the extended cyclic form, they also presented a specifically female experience (attitude to marriage, motherhood, their own lives). Since both authors are well known, perhaps even primarily known, as narrative writers, it is not surprising that they chose a syntagmatic poem cycle that allows modification of the lyrics into a narrative structure. The fact that they chose the rational form of the cycle also reflects their literary ambition.

Milena Mileva Blažić: Fantastične pripovedi Nika Grafenauerja – pravljični triptih o Mahajani. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 147–158.
Avtorica v prispevku analizira triptih sodobnih pravljic mladinskega klasika Nika Grafenauerja Majhnica in Katrca Škrateljca (1987), Majhnica (1987) in Mahajana in druge pravljice o Majhnici (1990). Niko Grafenauer je sodobni slovenski mladinski klasik in kanonski avtor v učnem načrtu za slovenščino (2011). V članku so analizirane intertekstualnost, motivno-tematske reminiscence, podoba otroka in ljubezni v triptihu, posebej v obsežni sodobni pravljici Mahajana s slikarskimi ilustracijami Marije Lucije Stupica.

Milena Mileva Blažić: Fantasy Narrative by Niko Grafenauer – the Mahajana Fairy Tale Triptych. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 147–158.
The article analyses a triptych of contemporary fairy tales by Slovene author Niko Grafenauer: Majhnica and Katrca Škrateljca (1987), Majhnica (1987) and Mahayana and other stories about Majhnica (1990). Niko Grafenauer is a modern classic and a representative author in the Slovene language curriculum (2011). The paper analyses intertextuality, motif reminiscences, the triptych image of a child and love, in particular in the fantasy Mahajana, which is illustrated by Marija Lucija Stupica.

Sanja Kostanjšek: Iskanje identitete v romanih Republika jutranje rose, Ločil bom peno od valov in Ki jo je megla prinesla, Jezik in slovstvo . Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 159–173.
Književnost se je že od nekdaj ukvarjala z vprašanjem identitete literarnega subjekta. Prispevek ob primerih treh sodobnih slovenskih romanov, Republika jutranje rose Vladimirja P. Štefaneca ter Ki jo je megla prinesla in Ločil bom peno od valov Ferija Lainščka, predstavlja v okviru problema zapletenosti pojma identitete predvsem boje znotraj posameznika ter med posameznikom in skupino. Dinamično strukturo identitete lahko v smislu razvoja osebne/duhovne inteligence literarnih likov dojemamo kot vseživljenjski proces, zaznamovan s krizami, konflikti, z aktivnimi in s pasivnimi obdobji ter procesi sprejemanja in upiranja različnim družbenim vlogam, moralnim načelom ali stilom življenja.

Sanja Kostanjšek: In Search of Identity in the Novels The Republic of Morning Dew, She Who Was Brought by Fog and I Shall Separate Foam from the Waves. Jezik in slovstvo. 3–4/2012. 159–173.
Literature has always been concerned with the issue of the identity of the literary subject. With reference to three contemporary Slovene novels – The Republic of Morning Dew by Vladimir P. Štefanec, and She Who Was Brought by Fog and I Shall Separate Foam from the Waves by Feri Lainšček – the article presents struggles both within the individual and between the individual and the group in the context of the complexity of the concept of identity. In terms of the development of the personal/spiritual intelligence of literary characters, the dynamic structure of identity can be perceived as a lifelong process, characterised by crises, conflicts, active and passive periods, and processes of resistance to and acceptance of different social roles, moral principles or lifestyles.
